Scott Sartiano
Scott Sartiano (born October 31, 1974) is an American restaurateur and nightlife impresario known for co-founding the critically acclaimed nightclubs 1 Oak, Up & Down, and restaurants Butter and The Darby.
Early life and education
He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Italian-American and Irish/Polish-American parents. He was raised in Columbia, South Carolina, later moving to New York City to pursue his undergraduate degree at Columbia University, where he played tennis at the collegiate level. He graduated from Columbia in 1997.[1]
Career
After an injury to his wrist ended his tennis career, Sartiano focused on business and investments in the night club industry. He joined forces with Richie Akiva and opened Butter Restaurant in New York City in 2002 and 1 Oak lounge in 2007.[2] Both of them became instant hits in the celebrity scene; 1 Oak has since then expanded to numerous cities across the world, including Dubai, Las Vegas, Tokyo, Los Angeles, the Maldives, and Mexico City.[3][4][5][6]
Sartiano is considered a veteran in the nightlife and restaurant space. His credits include spots such as Butter, 10AK, The Darby, and Up & Down. In 2010, he opened a supper club-themed restaurant named The Darby, with Alex Guarnaschelli as the executive chef.[7] In 2014, he opened Up & Down, which also became popular with celebrities.[8][9][10][11] He parted ways with his business partner in the same year.[12] Sartiano opened a chain of fast-casual restaurants, Broken Coconut, in 2017.[13]
Sartiano's next project, a private social club named Zero Bond was slated to open in April 2020,[2][14] but the outbreak of COVID-19 delayed that original opening date. Zero Bond opened in October 2020. Sartiano described the experience to Fortune as such: “I wanted to create a London-style social club in New York that catered to a mixture of people—creatives and actors as well as doctors, bankers, athletes, and more.[15] The main grill at Zero Bond is overseen by Michelin Star chef Richard Farnabe and is supplemented by an omakase sushi bar and private dining rooms.[16] The venue displays a multimillion-dollar art collection, screening room and library.[17] Both Sartiano and Will Makris received the help of designer William Sofield of Studio Sofield to create a setting that showcases serene furniture, exposed brick, and Baccarat chandeliers.[18] While Zero Bond has all the workings of a conventional social club, the club takes a community-based approach, inviting young, affluent individuals, athletes, artistic types, and other figures from the business and entertainment world.[19]
Sartiano was appointed to New York City mayor Eric Adams' transition team. He hosted mayor Adams' election night party at social club Zero Bond with his transition team after declaring victory in Brooklyn.[20][21] Some other prominent celebrities and figures to attend gatherings at Zero Bond include Elon Musk, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lil Nas X, Chris Rock, Rami Malek, etc.[22]
Sartiano is on the board of trustees for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Personal life
Sartiano was previously in a relationship with actresses Anne Hathaway, Ashley Olsen, and Jamie-Lynn Sigler.[23][24][25][26] He married Wilhelmina model Allie Rizzo on October 25, 2014.[27][28]
