Sardar (upcoming film)

Sardar is an upcoming Tamil language spy crime thriller film written and directed by P. S. Mithran and produced by S. Lakshman Kumar under the banner of Prince Pictures.[1][2] The film stars Karthi (in dual role) and Raashi Khanna in the lead, with Laila, Rajisha Vijayan, Murali Sharma.[3][4] G. V. Prakash Kumar scores the music for the film, replacing Yuvan Shankar Raja, who had been Mithran's regular composer to date, while George C. Williams cinematographer. Sardar has been edited by Ruben and stunt choreography by Dhilip Subbarayan. The film marks Bollywood actor Chunky Pandey's Tamil debut,[5] and actress Laila's comeback to the cinema after 16 years.[6]

Development

The film was officially announced on 14 November 2020 conducting puja at the Prince Pictures.[9] Then, the first day shooting was started on 26 April 2021.[10] Due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the shooting halted on 29 April 2021 after two day's shoot at Chennai.[11] The makers constructed a set worth of 2 crores, planning to shoot major portions of the film on the sets in the meantime.[12][13][14][15]

Casting

In April 2021, Raashi Khanna was announced as female lead, with Simran to appear in a negative role.[16][17] In May, Rajisha Vijayan was announced as an important role.[18] In March actress Simran opt out the project due to the schedule conflicts, instead Laila signed the project in same month,[6] The film marks the comeback for Laila in cinema after 16 years.[7]

The post-theatrical streaming rights of the film were bought by Aha Tamil.[19]
