Samarkand State Medical University

Samarkand State Medical University (Samarkand State Medical University until April 1, 2022)[1] — medical is a higher educational university in Uzbekistan, engaged in education and training of students, medical workers and scientists, as well as improving their qualifications.[2] The University is located in the city of Samarkand.

History

Samarkand State Medical University was founded in May 1930 at the initiative of the Council of People's Commissars of the Uzbek SSR

University during the World War II

On the basis of the Samarkand State Medical University (SamMI) in 1942–1944, the evacuated Leningrad Military Medical Academy and the Kuibyshev Military Medical Academy were located.

Faculties

There are 10 facultys functioning in SSMU:

  • Faculty of Medicine, organized in 1930;[10]
  • Faculty of pediatrics, organized in 1963;[11]
  • Medical and pedagogical faculty, organized in 2005;[12]
  • Faculty of Dentistry, organized in 2009;[13]
  • Pharmacy faculty, organized in 2020;[14]
  • International faculty of medical education, organized in 2020;[15]
  • Faculty of Postgraduate Education, organized in 1981;[16]

Teaching staff

The Samarkand State Medical University has 66 departments and courses, where more than 540 scientists and teachers conduct scientific and pedagogical activities. Of these, 58 doctors of sciences, 42 professors, 177 candidates of sciences, 111 associate professors.

The educational process at the university

Since 2005, a new phase had begun in the history of the university. It was necessary to create decent conditions for a high-quality educational process and scientific activities of the teaching staff in order to significantly increase their impact. Electronic teaching materials are posted in all disciplines taught at the university in Uzbek, Russian, and English languages. Also, a student scientific society (SSS) functions at all departments.[17]
