History

The city is one of the ancient villages in Egypt. Its original name was "Saqia Qalta." The city was mentioned in the laws of court (قوانين الدواوين) by 6th century Egyptian writer Al-Asaad bin Mamati and in Guidance masterpiece (Tuhfat al-Irshad) from the city of El Quseyya, and in the Mu’jam al-Buldan (glossary of countries): Qulta is a good village known as Saqiya Qalta in Upper Egypt, east of the Nile, without Akhmim in Egypt; And in the masterpiece: a waterwheel I said in the works of Al-Suyuti, quoting from the Akhmimiya. Then he distorted the name by integrating Al-Sadr into the disability, so it became "Saqlath",as mentioned in the old calendar books and in the date of the year 1231 AH, and in the year 1877 it was known as “Saqlath and the Arabs” in the tables of the Ministry of Finance.[2]
