As of 2001 India census,[1] Sakhanu had a population of 8,809. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Sakhanu has an average literacy rate of 30%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 38%, and female literacy is 20%. In Sakhanu, 22% of the population is under 6 years of age. Mrs. Sameena Begum (wife of Late Ex Chairman Hilal Uddin who was the two time Chairman for Sakhanu and one of the Honorable person of Sakhanu) is the current Chairman of Sakhanu from Samajwadi Party. His members are Sibtey Hasan one of the close allies of his Son Bilal uddin. of Ex Chairperson of Late Mubina Khatoon w/o Late Shri Gulam sarwar sahab. HE was great laeder of Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP). There are many 10 wards in sakhanu .The Dashing and popular Member of Nagar panchayat is Mr. NAJEEBUL HASAN he is also a great leader of Bsp and he is a brother of Late Shri Gulam sarwar sahab.
