Ryo Aitaka

Ryo Aitaka (born 31 December 1989) is a Japanese heavyweight kickboxer. He is the current Bigbang heavyweight champion and has unsuccessfully challenged for the K-1 Cruiserweight title.

Kickboxing career

During Bigbang 25 Ryo Aitaka challenged for the heavyweight title against Gakumu. Aitaka dominated the fight, ending it in the second round by a knockout.[2][3]

He then made his first appearance with K-1, facing Masahiro Iwashita. Aitaka would lose a unanimous decision.[4]

Moving back to Bigbang kickboxing, he made his first title defense against Kousuke Matakata. Aitaka won the fight by a second round knockout.[5]

Fighting once again with K-1 he fought Taichi Furuta,[6] scoring a win through a first round TKO, his first win with the organization.[7]

Aitaka would make defend his Bigbang heavyweight title four additional times, with unanimous decision wins over K-JEE and Daiki Takase, and knockout wins over OD-KEN and Yuki Kudo.[8][9][10]

During the K-1 Japan vs The World event, Aitaka fought Sina Karimian, beating him in the third round, with a right hook KO.[11]

Following this win, Aitaka fought the South Korean native Jae Geun Yang at K-1 World GP 2019 Japan. Aitaka won, ending the fight after only 57 seconds, as Yang suffer a shoulder injury.[12]

At K-1: K'Festa 3 Aitaka fought a rematch with Sina Karimian. Karimian won a unanimous decision to defend his cruiserweight title.[13]

Aitaka fought ANIMAL KOJI at K-1 World GP 2021: K’Festa 4 Day.2, losing the fight by unanimous decision.[14]

Aitaka was scheduled to face K-Jee at K-1 World GP 2021 in Fukuoka on July 17, 2021. Despite staggering K-Jee early on in the second round, he would go on to lose the fight by a low kick knockout.[15]

Aitaka was scheduled to face the MMA veteran & Olympic Judo gold medalist Satoshi Ishii at K-1 World GP 2021: Yokohamatsuri on September 20, 2021.[16] He lost the fight by unanimous decision, after an extra round was fought.[17]

Aitaka faced Hisaki Kato at K-1: K'Festa 5 on April 3, 2022, in the reserve bout of the 2022 K-1 openweight tournament.[18] He lost the fight by a third-round knockout.[19]

Personal life

Aitaka is married to the freelance creator and former idol Sumire Satō.[20] He has 1 child, a daughter named Hinano.[21]
