Richard Cheeseman Jr.

Richard John "Rick" Cheeseman Jr. (born 1966)[1] is a United States Navy rear admiral and surface warfare officer who most recently served as commander of Carrier Strike Group 10 from December 14, 2020 to April 6, 2022.[2] He previously served as commander of Carrier Strike Group 2 with tours as commanding officer of the USS Bulkeley (DDG-84) and USS Monterey (CG-61).[3][4] Raised in Carney's Point, New Jersey, Cheeseman earned a B.S. degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1989. He later received a master's degree in joint campaign planning and strategy from the Joint Advanced Warfighting School at the Joint Forces Staff College in 2007.[3]

In March 2022, he was nominated for promotion to rear admiral, and was confirmed on March 30,[5] but then in April was nominated for further promotion to vice admiral and appointment as Chief of Naval Personnel and deputy chief of naval operations for manpower, personnel, training, and education.[6][7] Set to assume the CNP office in June 2022, he will first serve in a temporary capacity as special assistant to the Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command in May.[8]
