Reza Goodary

Reza Goodary (Persian: رضا گودری, Standard Persian pronunciation: [reˈzɒː ɡudæriː] (listen); born Mohammadreza Goodary (Persian: محمدرضا گودری); 14 December 1988) is an Iranian mixed martial artist.[1][2][3] He specializes in karate, Muay Thai, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, boxing and has a record of 299 professional karate fights.[4]

Early life and education

Goodary was born in Tehran and spent his childhood in the Narmak area.[5] In 1995, he started Judo at age 7.[6] Next, he began learning traditional Chinese martial arts.[2] Because of his interest in a practical method of combat, he focused on full contact karate instead.[7]

Career

Iran

Goodary practiced under Hamid Soltani's supervision.[7] As required by Iranian law, Goodary completed mandatory military service.[8]

Thailand

After winning 20 Iranian national titles in full contact karate, Goodary became in interested in other martial arts as well.[9] When his coach immigrated to Germany in February 2016, he decided to move to Thailand.[10]

United States of America

On August 27, 2021, he announced that he would soon train in the United States.[11]

Martial arts career

Mixed martial arts

At present, he is involved in mixed martial arts training under Mehdi Zatout's supervision in the Venum Training Camp in Thailand.[12]

Goodary made his mixed martial arts debut against Jean Carlos Pereira at Fairtex Fight: Battle of Dragons on April 30, 2022. He lost by split decision.

Full contact karate

In 2016, he won the 3rd place at the full contact karate International Championships in Pattaya and was ranked among the top eight in the world Byakuren Kaikan cup in Osaka.[13] In 2017 and 2018, he won 1st place in the Japanese national championship in Okinawa Island.[14]

Muay Thai

In 2016, Goodary studied Muay Thai under the auspices of Sakmongkol Sithchuchok.[15] Between 2018 and 2020, Goodary participated in eight professional Muay Thai fights in Thailand.[16] On April 22, 2018, he faced UFC fighter Phil Hawes in MAX Muay Thai.[17]

Brazilian jiu-jitsu

In 2019, he started practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Celso Rolim Junior supervision at the Fairtex Gym.[18] He was able to receive the blue belt Brazilian jiu-jitsu from De'Alonzio Jackson's hands.[19] He has fought for the Siam Cup BJJ & COPA de Bangkok badges.[20] He also participated in 4 International tournaments, 20 matches in the field of Brazilian jiu-jitsu in 2019 and 2020, where he won 16 fights and 6 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals.[21]

Bare-knuckle boxing

On December 18, 2021, Goodary lost to former two-division WBC boxing champion Sirimongkol Singmanasak by split decision at BKFC Thailand 1: The Game Changer.[22][23]

World Martial Arts Masterships

In 2016 and 2019, he won bronze medals in the World Martial Arts Masterships in South Korea.[24]

International Yongmudo Championships

In 2016 and 2019, he won a silver medal at the international Yongmudo tournaments.[25]
