Raxaul–Kathmandu railway line

The Raxaul–Kathmandu railway line is a proposed India–Nepal cross border railways between the two countries. The Government of India and Nepal had issued a joint statement on expanding rail linkages with India’s financial support, connecting the border city of Raxaul in India to Kathmandu in Nepal.[1] Nepal already signed a memorandum of understanding with India in New Delhi to prepare a detailed project report for a proposed $3.15 billion railway linking Kathmandu with the Indian border town of Raxaul.[2]

Konkan Railway Corporation has already prepared a preliminary engineering cum traffic survey or pre-feasibility study of the proposed broad-gauge railway project.[3] Indian broad-gauge tracks have a width of 1,676 mm. According to the pre-feasibllity study the railway line will start from Raxaul and pass through Jitpur, Nijgadh, Sikharpur, Sisneri and Sathikhel before connecting Chobhar, Kathmandu, and there will be 41 bridges and 40 curves. [2] The railway will be 113 kilometre long. Around 20 per cent of it will be tunnels and bridges.[4] about 40 km section will have tunnels and 35 bridges have to be built in different places.[5] The Detail Project Report (DPR) for the Raxaul-Kathmandu railroad is ongoing.[6]
