Raising hands in dua

Raising the hands for dua is a sunnah and a mustahabb act of ibadah done by Muslims after fardh salah. When making a supplication, the Muslim should raise his hands with humility to Allah and do it in the way instructed by Muhammad.

In few cases, Raising the hands in Dua is regarded as a forbidden action (Bidʻah) and should not be done during:[1]

• Salah (in specific cases)
• Khutbah (in specific cases)
• Tawaf
• Sa'iye
• Ruku
• Standing up from Ruku
• Sujud
• Sitting in salah

There are two ways to raise the hands to perform the Dua:

1. With both hands.
2. With just one index finger: This was done when the Prophet Muhammad was giving advices, when he was performing a Khutbah on the minbar.
