Radclyffe (real name Dr. Lenora Ruth Barot,[2][3] born 1950) is an American author of lesbian romance, paranormal romance, erotica and mystery. She has authored multiple short stories, fan fiction[4] and edited numerous anthologies.[5] Barot is a member of the Saints and Sinners Literary Hall of Fame[6] and winner of the Laurel Wreath, Beanpot, RWA Prism, Lories, Aspen Gold, Golden Crown Literary Society, and Lambda Literary Awards.[7][8] She is a 2003/04 recipient of The Alice B Readers Award for her body of work as well as a member of the Golden Crown Literary Society, Pink Ink, and the Romance Writers of America. She lives with her partner, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute professor Dr. Lee Ligon,[5] in Johnsonville, New York.

Previously combining a full-time private clinic (where she worked as plastic surgeon) with writing books, Barot retired from medicine in 2005[10] to devote herself full-time to writing. Barot chooses not to type, instead using speech recognition software to write her books.[12]

Early life and education

Barot was valedictorian of the June 1968 graduating class of Hudson Falls High School in Hudson Falls, New York, after which she attended the State University of New York at Albany.[13]

Barot graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1976.[2][14] Barot is board certified in Plastic Surgery.[2]

Medical career and lawsuits

While working for Cooper Plastic Surgery Association in 2005 Lenora Barot was sued for medical malpractice. The plaintiff in the case claimed that her breast reconstruction surgery was unsuccessful and resulted in significant complications. The plaintiff had to undergo multiple additional surgeries due to those complications and suffered permanent injuries to her breast and abdomen as well as a loss of strength in her left arm. The trial court found that the malpractice claim was not proven.[15]
