Quantic School of Business and Technology

Quantic School of Business and Technology, or simply Quantic, is a business school headquartered in Washington D.C., USA. It was formerly known as Smartly Institute.[3] Following some initial developments in 2014, the school was formally founded in 2016[4] by Tom Adams, Alexie Harper, and Ori Ratner.

Admission to both Quantic's MBA and EMBA degree programs are highly selective, with the combined acceptance rate for both programs historically being less than 13%. Furthermore, the process has become increasingly competitive over time as with higher levels of international awareness comes greater numbers of applications. Selectivity is necessary so as to ensure the students that are eventually recruited are capable of mastering the master's-level material being presented while also being able to participate in a meaningful way in discussions and other activities with peers. At the outset the school offered one degree, an MBA (Master of Business Administration) that was taught via a smartphone app and/or a website. [6] The MBA was unique in that students were not charged a fee.[6] The MBA degree was free because the school would charge recruitment fees to employers.[6]

The school subsequently introduced an Executive MBA (EMBA) at a tuition fee of $9,600. [7]

By August 2021, Quantic no longer offered any no-fee degree courses, with the MBA and the EMBA being both subject to a tuition fee of $9,600. The School continued to award merit-based and need-based scholarships assessed on a case-by-case basis, which reduced the tuition fees for successful applicants. Separately, Quantic may offer discounts on tuition for defined groups and periods of time. Applicants may also be eligible for tuition reimbursement by their employer. [8]

Renaming

In 2020, Smartly Institute changed its name to Quantic School of Business and Technology.[9]

Accreditation

Quantic School of Business and Technology is licensed by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) in Washington, DC and accredited by the Distance Education Accreditation Commission (DEAC).[10] The DEAC is listed by the United States Department of Education as a recognized accrediting agency and is also recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).[11]

Graduate Programs

At the graduate level, Quantic awards the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA). Students pursuing the Executive Master of Business Administration must declare three specialisations as a part of their studies.

MBA - The curriculum consists of nine mandatory concentrations (subject areas) during the 13-month course of study.

EMBA - The curriculum consists of eight mandatory concentrations plus a minimum of three specializations (out of nine available) during the 13-month course of study. The program includes a capstone project.
