• Aetashaa Sansgiri as Ahilyabai Holkar: Mankoji Shinde and Sushilabai's daughter; Khanderao's first wife; Subedar Malhar Rao Holkar and Rani Gautamabai Holkar's daughter-in-law. She was married at the age of nine. She is kind-hearted, intelligent, religious, mischievous, honest, hard-working and open-minded girl who wishes to study. She struggles under the clutches of a patriarchal society to gain equal rights as men but later overcomes all barriers, with her sheer dedication and support of her father-in-law, and becomes an inspiration for generations to come. She tries to make Khanderao happy and tries to make him her friend but fails miserably, yet she never loses hope and eventually does friendship with him soon. But soon Khanderao has to go away from Malwa for 7 years because of being angry on his teacher. After Khanderao came she got to know about Khanderao's drinking habit and distanced herself from him. Khanderao didn't like this and tried to confess his love for Ahilya. (2021–present)

• Rajesh Shringarpure[1] as Subedar Malhar Rao Holkar: The King of Malwa region under the Maratha empire; Gautama Bai, Dwarka Bai, Bana Bai and Harku Bai's husband; Khanderao and Seeta Bai's father; Gunoji, Ahilya and Parvati's father-in-law. He is a courageous, kind, and intelligent man who is deeply respected and loved by all. He decides to marry his son to a village girl called Ahilya when he stops by at the village on his course and is immensely impressed by her intelligence, courage and kindness towards others. He decides so because he thinks that having a wife like Ahilya will make his son more responsible, who is gearing up to become the future ruler of the kingdom of Malwa. He is an open-minded person who is not in favour of orthodox beliefs and traditions and supports Ahilya whenever she is scolded by her mother-in-law or is treated unequally by her husband. • Gaurav Amlani[2] as Khande Rao Holkar: Subedar Malhar Rao Holkar and Gautamabai Holkar's only son; Seetabai's younger brother; Ahilya and Parvati's husband. He usually don't realise his responsibilities and due to his short temper he did something which led him to go to gurukul. Where he got influenced by someone who made him addicted to alcohol. He made a friend there, Parikshit. Khanderao learnt sword fighting there and became a good warrior. He is little upset from his father because of his strict principles. He loves Ahilya immensely as she cares about him so much since they got married. (2021–present)
  • Krish Chauhan played the role of young Khanderao Holkar.
• Snehalata Vasaikar[3] as Queen Gautama Bai Holkar. Subedar Malhar Rao Holkar's first wife; Malwa's Chief Queen; Khanderao's mother and Ahilya and Parvati's mother-in-law. She is clever, intelligent and smart. She wants her son to be Subhedar of Malwa and wants him to be a responsible son. She loves her son and her daughter-in-law a lot. (2021–present)
• Sanika Gadgil as Queen Harku Bai Sahib Holkar: Subedar Malhar Rao Holkar's fourth wife(Khanda Rani).Khanderao-Ahilya's Choti aai,She is sweet, kind-hearted and educated one among all the queens (she even knows sword fighting and horseback riding). She supports and cares a lot about Ahilya and treats her like a best friend,guides her and makes her feel comfortable with her they both share their secrets to each other and many times she helps her in her plans. • Sukhada Khandkekar as Queen Dwarka Bai Sahib Holkar: Subedar Malhar Rao Holkar's second wife; Seetabai's mother and Gunoji's mother-in-law. She loves Khanderao as her son but cannot see him become the king's successor. She always brainwashes Khanderao to do wrongdoings so that the king gets frustrated and removes him from the post of his successor but is scared of Ahilya's presence (as Ahilya is intelligent). She is scared of the fact that if Khanderao and Ahilya become friends then he will become responsible and intelligent which will ruin her dream of becoming Rajmata. She wants her son-in-law Gunoji to be the future king of Malwa and her daughter Seetabai as the future queen of Malwa. (antagonist) (2021–present)

• Sidharth Banerjee as Tukoji Rao Holkar: Malhar Rao and Gautama's nephew and adopted son; Khanderao's cousin; Rakhmabai's husband and Ahilya's sworn brother. He is intelligent and one of Malhar Rao's most trusted nobles. He helps Khanderao and Ahilya to become friends with each other. (2021–present)
  • James Naivedhya Ghadge played the role of young Tukoji Rao Holkar.
• Harsh Joshi as Gunoji Rao: Dhanajirao's son; Seetabai's husband; Malhar Rao Holkar and Dwarka's son-in-law. He wants to become the king of Malwa. Along with the help of his father, Dhanaji Rao who is one of Malhar Rao's nobles, he plans to kill Malhar Rao and Khanderao but always fail miserably because of Ahilya. No one in the palace is aware of his and his father's wrongdoings. He also hates Ahilya because she always intervenes and ruins his plans. (antagonist) (2021–present)
• Vallari Viraj Londhe as Parvatibai Holkar: Gawdeji and Yashoda's daughter; Khanderao's second wife; Subedar Malhar Rao Holkar and Rani Gautamabai Holkar's daughter-in-law. (2022-present)
• Bhagyashree Nhalve as Queen Bana Bai Sahib Holkar: Subedar Malhar Rao Holkar's third wife. She is bubbly and childish, and because of her foolishness, she supports Queen Dwarka in her plans/wrongdoings. (2021–present)
• Anjali Ujawane as Yamuna Bai: Queen Dwarka Bai Holkar's assistant/maid who is like a family to her. She accompanied her to the palace at the time when she was getting married. Since then she lives with her and spies on the other members of the family to gain important messages to inform Dwarka Bai of her plans. She hates Ahilya because she always ruins and escapes from her plans. (2021–present)
• Varada Patil as Seetabai: Dwarka Bai and Malhar Rao's daughter; Khanderao's elder sister; Gunoji's wife. She is childish and wants to be the future queen of Malwa. (2021)
• Madhura Joshi as Renu: Ahilya and Saraja's best friend; Parikshit's wife. She had to struggle a lot to live her life openly because she became a widow after just a few months of her marriage and because of the orthodoxness of the society she wasn't allowed to do many things. Later, Ahilya, after requesting a lot, brought her to the palace of Malwa from Chaundi village. She supports and helps Ahilya a lot in her life. Renu has a special spot in her heart for Parikshit.   • Shreya Choudhary played the role of young Renu.
• Saundarya Sheth as Saraja: Ahilya and Renu's best friend whose father was a thief. Ahilya believes that Sarja is a good girl. So, she befriends her and helps her. Ahilya also shares her pain and some plans with her. (2021–present)

• Akanksha Pal as Rakhmabai Holkar: Tukoji's wife; like Ahilya she also belongs from a normal family and is always jealous of the attention, respect and rights Ahilya gets. (2021–present)
  • Charmi Dhami played the role of young Rakhmabai Holkar.
• Sameer Deshpande as Mankoji Shinde: Sushilabai's husband; Mahadji, Vithoji and Ahilya's father; Khanderao's father-in-law. He loves his daughter dearly and can go any way to protect her. He teaches moral values to Ahilya which she applies in her day-to-day life. (2021–present)
• Sulakshana Joglekar as Sushilabai: Mankoji Shinde's wife; Mahadji, Vithoji and Ahilya's mother; Khanderao's mother-in-law. She teaches Ahilya how to live properly at her in-laws' place and sometimes even scolds and taunts her yet she loves and misses her a lot. (2021–present)

• Abhay Harpale as Gangoba Pant Tatya: One of King Malhar Rao's trusted nobles. He is wise and he also knows sword-fighting. He is honest and always tries to help Malhar Rao Holkar. (2021–present)
• Kamal Krishna Paudial as Dhanaji : Gunoji's father; Seetabai's father-in-law. He is Malhar Rao's trusted nobles. He and his son plan to kill Malhar Rao and Khanderao as he wants to crown his son as the future king but they fail miserably because of Ahilya. (2021–present)
• Harshit Keshawani as Kanhoji: Khanderao's friend who helps him in his plans. (2021)
• Snehal Waghmare as Godabai: She is Rayaji's mother and Gautamabai's sister-in-law who likes Ahilya and wishes to have daughter-in-law like her.
• Anonymous as Rangrao: Malhar Rao's spy, who alerts the Holkar family about any kinds of attacks and danger.
• Kajal Singh Maurya as Manjula: She's a girl from a poor family whose father failed to repay the debt taken from Pilaji Patil, because of which he is trying to coerce her. (2021)
• Jenil Panchamia as Parikshit: Khanderao's friend; Renu's husband. He lived with Khanderao in his Gurukul. There's a spot in his heart for Renu.
• Manoj Kolhatkar as Acharya: He always follows the rules and regulations of the society and against Ahilyabai's thoughts about Widow remarriage. (2021 present)

• Dushyant Wagh as Bhola, who had disguised himself as Lord Shiva for an act which Ahilya by mistake thought to be an original god when she ran away from the palace. He was the one who advised Ahilya to go back to the palace to her in-laws. Later Gunoji and Dhanaji's man seriously injured him. (2021)

The series was announced by Dashami Creations and was confirmed in December 2020 by Sony TV.[4]

The first promo of the series was released on 5 December 2020.[5]

In July 2021, it was confirmed that the show is taking a leap of 7 years and Aetashaa Sansgiri, Gaurav Amlani and Sidharth Banerjee will portray grown up Ahilya, Khanderao and Tukoji, respectively.

Kinshuk Vaidya was finalized for the role of adult Khanderao Holkar, a contract was signed between him and the makers of Punyashlok Ahilyabai, even the promo was ready but he opted out at the last minute, before starting the shoot because he got another project and so the makers informed CINTAA about his unprofessionalism. Then, with no time left, Makers finalized Gaurav Amlani as Khanderao Holkar.
