History

Sheila Given conceived of creating a new non-denominational Christian school in the Murfreesboro area in the spring of 1994 while she was in a Bible study. This led to a community meeting in August 1996 that attracted leaders for the future school. First housed in Believers Chapel Church, the school opened its doors in August 1997, serving students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

In 1998, the school purchased an equestrian facility and remodeled it to house the school. In 2001, it added seventh and eighth-grade classes. The school opened a new building in September 2004.

In 2013, PCA expanded once again, opening a new elementary school wing. As of 2021, the student body consists of approximately 695 students. A new wing for high school students, including a 1000-seat gymnasium, has been completed. In the next five years, PCA has planned on expanding the campus to include six tennis courts and two baseball fields with an area for concessions between them.

Academics

Providence Christian Academy offers a classical Christian model for teaching its students. Elementary and middle school students take achievement tests at the end of year. The high school provides dual enrollment through Bryan College. The high school also requires students to take honors level core classes. Each year the senior class presents a senior thesis that is presented in front of the entire student body as a part of the class.

Extracurricular activities

Athletics

PCA fields middle school teams in the Middle Tennessee Athletic Conference and high school teams in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA). The girls' basketball team won a Division 2 AA championship. PCA has had several athletes commit to Division One colleges under athletic scholarships. PCA has also won a Division 2 AA championship in shot put and golf.

Music

PCA provides middle, high, and elementary school Christian music groups. The theater program has also expanded in recent years. There are two productions one being in the fall and the other in the spring.
