Preetika Rao

Preetika Rao is an Indian Actress, model and former film-columnist and singer.[1] Made her debut in 2010 with Tamil movie Chikku Bukku. Rao get rose to fame as portraying the role of Aaliya Ghulam Haider in Colors TV's Popular romantic television series Beintehaa in 2014. She was also seen as Mohini Ayaan Mehta in Star Plus's television series Love Ka Hai Intezaar in 2017.[2]

Personal life

Rao graduated majoring in history from Sophia College, while also acquiring a diploma in advertising and journalism. She went to do film journalism and wrote for Bangalore Mirror, Deccan Chronicle and the Asian Age. Her sister, Amrita Rao is a Bollywood actress.[2][3]

Modeling

As a teen-model, Preetika started her modeling career with an advertisement for Cadbury Dairy Milk, along with Amitabh Bachchan, directed by Shoojit Sircar, and has over 200 TVC and print campaigns to her credit.[4]

Acting

Preetika Rao chose to skip Bollywood for television as she wasn't comfortable with bikinis and kissing that had become mandatory in most A-list film contracts in Bollywood.[5]

Preetika made her acting debut with the Tamil romantic film Chikku Bukku (2010) and also appeared in the Telugu film Priyudu (2012). Preetika quit films after that for a diploma course in broadcast journalism at the New York Film Academy.[6]

In December 2013, Rao made the transition from regional cinema to television with the popular television serial Beintehaa on Colors TV, playing the lead role of Aaliya Zain Abdullah for which she won the Best Actress Award at the Kalakar Awards, held at Kolkata in January 2015,[7] along with the Zee Gold Best Debut award.[8] She also won ITA Performer of the year and ITA Best Jodi along with Harshad Arora that year.[9]

In 2017, Preetika played the lead in Love Ka Hai Intezaar as Mohini (on Star Plus) and in 2018, she also did the short series Laal Ishq on &TV, with Priyank Sharma.
