Pleasant Hill Historic District (Macon, Georgia)
Pleasant Hill Historic District is a historic area in Macon, Georgia listed on the National Register of Historic Places.[1][2] It is historically African American and was home to prominent members of that community. The district includes the Linwood Cemetery established in 1894. The area was divided by an interstate.[3]

The Booker T. Washington Center is a community center in Pleasant Hill.[4] It is also home to L.H. Williams Elementary School.


The area includes St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, a wooden church, and corner storefronts. The Georgia Archives have a 1924 photograph of a May Day celebration at a playground in Pleasant Hill.[5]
Notable residents
U.S. congressman Jefferson Long was from Pleasant Hill.[6] Jefferson Long Park was established in the area to honor him.[7] Little Richard grew up on the edge of the area.
Other residents of the area who gained prominence include civil rights leader Henry W. Lucas and Dr. Robert Williams, an educator. Beda-Etta College was in the neighborhood.[8] Architect Louis Pursley / Lewis Persley is buried at Linwood Cemetery.[9]
