History

Minor league baseball began in Osceola, Arkansas when the "Osceola Indians" began play in 1936. Osceola became charter members of the reformed Class D level Northeast Arkansas League, which began play as a six–team league. Osceola joined the league, which consisted of the Batesville White Sox (34–64), Jonesboro Giants (50–46), Newport Cardinals (67–30), Osceola Indians (58–37), Paragould Rebels (31–66) and West Plains Badgers/Caruthersville Pilots (51–48) as charter members.[1][2][3]

In the final 1936 overall standings, the Indians had a 58–37 record under manager Royce Williams. Osceola finished their first season of play in 2nd place, 8.0 games behind the 1st place Newport Cardinals. Osceola did not qualify for the playoffs as the league played a split–season schedule and Osceola did not win either of the half–seasons. The Caruthersville Pilots won the playoff against Newport.[4][5][2][6][7]

In their second season of play, the 1937 Osceola Indians became an affiliate of the St. Louis Browns. The Indians finished the 1937 season with a record of 49–60, placing 5th under manager Elmer Kirchoff. After drawing 7,830 total fans for their 1937 home games, the Osceola franchise folded after the 1937 season and was replaced by the Batesville White Sox in the 1937 Northeast Arkansas League season. Osceola, Arkansas has not hosted another minor league team.[5][2][8][9][10]
