North Kolkata

North Kolkata is an important area in Kolkata and the city's oldest neighbourhood. Shyambazar, Bagbazar, Kumartuli, Shobhabazar, Posta, Jorasanko, Rajabazar, Phoolbagan, Maniktala, Kankurgachi, Ultadanga, Chitpur, Belgachia, Tala, Cossipore, and Sinthee are among its many neighbourhoods. There are many old heritage buildings and temples, as well as the well-known Shovabazar Rajbari. Because of its rich cultural heritage, it is commonly referred to as Babu Kolkata. All of the true blood elite classes from the Bengali community live here.

It still has palatial structures like Laha Bari,Pathuriaghata Ghosh Bari,Thakur Bari. From all of these Rajbaris and their historical values to the Math of Ramakrishna Paramhans,[1] one can find every important place in North Kolkata.It houses the main campuses of several universities, including the University of Calcutta, Presidency University, and Rabindrabharati University, among others. This area of the city contains a number of railway junctions and metro stations. It is also the business center's hub. It is the epicentre of a business centre, stretching from Sinthee Crossing to Chiriamore Crossing to Shyambazar Crossing to Burrabazar. Property values in North Kolkata are extremely high due to its central location, and it is frequently referred to as one of the city's "poshest" areas.

History

North Kolkata was previously known as Sutanuti village, and it was located there along with the other two villages, Gobindopur and Kalikata.[2] This region of Kolkata was also the capital of British India until 1911, along with the other two regions, Middle and South.
