Biography

Peskov was born 3 February 1990 in Moscow.[1] He is the eldest son of Dmitry Peskov and Anastasia Budyonny.[1][2] He is a great-grandson of Semyon Budyonny.[3] He moved with his mother to the United Kingdom in the 1990s.[4] Peskov sometimes uses his stepfathers surname, Choles.[4] He was educated in Britain.[4]

Peskov was in a young offender institution for stealing a mobile phone and also took courses for alcohol abuse and anger management.[5] Later, in 2010, Peskov and two other men were convicted "of punching a teenager in the face during a mobile phone theft."[4][5] He sentenced to 15 months at a youth offender institution for assault outside a McDonalds in Milton Keynes.[5][4] Peskov claimed that he was estranged from his family and had been kicked out by his family at the age of 16.[5]

From 2010 to 2012, Peskov served in the Russian Strategic Rocket Forces and was part of the 2012 Moscow Victory Day Parade.[6] He briefly worked as a correspondent RT.[4][6]

In 2016, it was alleged that Peskov was the subject of a police investigation for beating his grandmother, Inese Budyonny, a 71 year old pensioner.[3]

In 2017, Peskov's opulent lifestyle was criticized by Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny.[4][7] Peskov responded on RBK that Navalny's report was "a provocation."[7]

On 11 March 2022, Peskov was added to the list of specially designated nationals who are sanctioned by the United States Department of the Treasury as part of the international sanctions during the Russo-Ukrainian War.[1] On 15 March 2022, Peskov was sanctioned by the United Kingdom and is barred from travelling to the country.[4]
