Background and composition
Nav explained that he had created "Myself" in his mother's house in his hometown of Rexdale, Ontario, Canada.[1] In early 2017, American model and media personality Kylie Jenner posted a video on Snapchat with her lip-syncing the lyrics to the song, which brought more attention to the song.[2] Over
Critical reception
Writing for Exclaim!, Vijai Kumar Singh felt that with Nav "suggests something more substantive than typical hip-hop materialism", with the line: "When I'm sober I just don't like who I am".[3] The staff of HipHopDX dismissed the lyrics due to Nav rapping about drugs throughout the whole song, writing that it is "time to detox, dude", for the lines: "I was sober for an hour but I'm rollin' off a bean now/ The drugs, they give me confidence, I'm sayin' what I mean now/ The xannies help me slow up, the lean it help me speed down."[4] RatingsGameMusic wrote that the song "has a topic and style that makes it a great way for Nav to immediately introduce himself to the people that may not know how he got to where he is now" and on the song with a fast-paced smooth beat, "what you will like most about the song is its catchiness though: Nav does a good job of saying his lines in a way that you would want to sing along with".[5]
Music video
