Musk family

The Musk family is a notable family in United States of South African and Canadian background. The family, of which Elon Musk is a member, is prominent in entertainment and business.[2]

The family traces its origins to England where the surname was adopted by Elon's paternal ancestors in the 16th century, before one of the family members emigrated to South Africa for permanent settlement.

  • Elon Musk (born 1971), entrepreneur and business magnate who is famous for his work on SpaceX and Tesla, he is currently the richest man in the world and Time Magazine 2021 Person of the Year.[3]
  • Errol Musk (born 1946), South African electromechanical engineer, pilot, sailor, consultant, and property developer who was once a half owner of a Zambian emerald mine near Lake Tanganyika;[4] he currently lives in Pretoria, South Africa with his second wife family; father of Elon Musk.[5]
  • Justine Musk (born 1972), Canadian author and former wife of Elon Musk.[6]
  • Kimbal Musk (born 1972), entrepreneur, philanthropist, and restaurateur; who together with his brother Elon Musk founded Zip2 in 1998 and later sold it to Compaq for $307 million; he is the co-founder and chairman of Big Green.[7]
  • Maye Musk (born 1948), model and dietitian for over 50 years, she has appeared on the covers of magazines, including a Time magazine health edition, Women's Day, and Vogue; mother of Elon Musk.[8]
  • Tosca Musk (born 1974), filmmaker and sister of Elon Musk; she is the co-founder of Passionflix, an OTT entertainment streaming platform and production company.[9]
  • Lyndon Rive (born 1977), businessman who co-founded SolarCity and served as its CEO until 2017; cousin to Elon through his mother Kaye Rive being Maye's twin.[10]
