Murina (film)

Murina is an 2021 internationally co-produced drama film, directed by Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović, in her directorial debut, from a screenplay by Alamat Kusijanović and Frank Graziano. It stars Gracija Filipović, Leon Lučev, Danica Curcic and Cliff Curtis. Martin Scorsese serves as an executive producer under his Sikelia Productions banner.[2]

It premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Caméra d'Or. At the subsequent Pula Film Festival it won three awards: Breza Award for Best Debutant (Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović), Golden Arena for Best Supporting Actress (Danica Ćurčić), and The Golden Gate of Pula - Arena Audience Award.

In May 2018, it was announced Antoneta Alamat Kusijanovic would direct the film, from a screenplay she wrote alongside Frank Graziano, with Martin Scorsese set to executive produce under his Sikelia Productions banner.[3]

Principal photography took place in late 2019.[4]

Release

The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Directors' Fortnight section on July 10, 2021. It won the Caméra d'Or award for best first feature.[5] In February 2022, Kino Lorber acquired distribution rights to the film.[6]

Reception

Murina currently holds an aggregated score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 29 reviews.[7] It has an aggregated Metacritic score of 74 indicating "generally favourable reviews" based on 8 reviews.[8]
