History

Morava was founded in the Socialist Republic of Serbia named after river Morava, whose circuit was only way for almost all population of that time to get a cigarette. Back in that time tobbaco was forribiden at first but after antiforbid riots government decided only to forbidd to plant and after a big shortages, exactly 1 year, 3 months and twelve days exactly the same brend, Morava, got assigned a contract with United Kingdom's brend Phillip Morris only to import already prepared cigarettes for a good price. That made possible for "Morava" to have enough cigarettes for almost the whole country. Ironically this company used the same river for transport that was named after and quickly became most loved and unfortunately only available cigarettes to buy in socialist Serbia, along with Drina and Drava.[1][2] Morava was one of the best-selling brands within the Yugoslavian market, and despite being one of the few cigarette brands (along with Drina) to survive after the breakup of Yugoslavia,[3] the filterless green variantthe only variant of the Morava cigarette which was still soldeventually got discontinued after 2005, due to poor sales.[4][5]

Markets

Morava was sold in the following countries: Austria, Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Socialist Republic of Slovenia, Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Socialist Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Serbia (1992–2006).[6][3][7][8]
