Mike Spivey (law school administration)

Mike Spivey is a former senior level administrator at Vanderbilt, Washington University and Colorado law schools, respectively. He is the founder of The Spivey Consulting Group[1] and motivational speaker,[2] and he has been featured as an expert on law schools and law school admissions in many national media outlets, including The New York Times,[3] Reuters,[4] The Economist,[5] the ABA Journal,[6][7] The Chronicle of Higher Education,[8] U.S. News & World Report,[9] CNN/Fortune,[10] Above the Law,[11][12] and Law.com.[13] He was among the first higher education experts to write publicly about the possibility of university campuses remaining closed through fall 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic[14] and has been featured in the media in respect to how higher education should respond.[15]

He has published hundreds of articles on how to improve law schools, on law school admissions, on legal employment[16] and on motivation and goal-setting[17] and has been featured as a motivational speaker at colleges and universities, including presenting with Civil Rights Leader Representative John Lewis and Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales.[18][2] He hosts a podcast, "Status Check with Spivey,"[19] in which he speaks about legal education and admissions and has interviewed a number of psychologists and researchers, including Judson A. Brewer,[20] Guy Winch,[21] Gabor Maté,[22] Anna Lembke,[23] and Kristin Neff.[24] Spivey currently serves on the board of directors for two legal education entities — a non-profit[25] and a tech startup — and is a former advisory board member for LexisNexis.[26] He is from New Canaan, Connecticut and resides in Boulder, Colorado.
