Men is an upcoming folk horror[2] film written and directed by Alex Garland. The film stars Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear.

Men is scheduled to be released in the United States on 20 May 2022, by A24, and in the United Kingdom on 1 June 2022, by Entertainment Film Distributors.

Premise

A young woman goes on a solo holiday in the English countryside after the death of her husband.[3]

Cast

  • Jessie Buckley as Harper Marlowe, a woman trying to go on holiday after a tragic incident
  • Rory Kinnear as Geoffrey, the owner of the holiday house Harper rents. Kinnear also portrays the numerous men in the village that Harper visits.
  • Paapa Essiedu as James, Harper's husband who died in a tragic incident
  • Gayle Rankin as Riley

Production

On January 6, 2021 it was announced that Alex Garland would write and direct a film for A24, with Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear in talks to star.[3] Regarding additional casting, The Sunday Times reported Paapa Essiedu rehearsing with Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear.[4]

Principal photography began on March 19, 2021 and was expected to conclude on May 19, 2021, in the United Kingdom.[5][6][7] On May 22, 2021, cinematographer Rob Hardy said filming had wrapped.[8]

Release

Men is set to be released in the United States on 20 May 2022, by A24.[9] It will screen at the Cannes Film Festival on 22 May 2022.[10] It is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom on 1 June 2022, by Entertainment Film Distributors.[11]
