Youth
In 2016, Matthew competed in the IberCup, an international tournament.[1] In July 2017, he joined C.F. Os Belenenses. Leal played for the New England Revolution's U-13 side in 2016-17, appearing in a combined 47 matches. His European Union passport makes him eligible to play for any European team. [3]

Personal life
He is originally from Newton, Massachusetts. He currently resides in Lisbon, Portugal. His twin brother, Patrick Leal is also a soccer player who represents Venezia FC.[4]
