History
Formation
In March 2011, the party decided to support a new coalition government of CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist) under Jhala Nath Khanal.[5] In the month of May, Upendra Yadav was inducted as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign affairs in the cabinet.[6] The party faced another split on 24 May 2011 after Jay Prakash Prasad Gupta broke away from the party with 13 members of the Constituent Assembly to form Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (Republican) after criticizing party chairman Upendra Yadav of supporting the Maoists.[7] The split left MJFN with 11 seats in the Constituent Assembly being smallest in size among the parties with same name.[8]
Later, chaiman of the party Jay Prakash Gupta was jailed in the corruption case while he was an incumbent minister in Bhattarai cabinet.[9] Party deputy chairman took over as chairman of the party and as Minister of Information and Communication in the government. After this the party faced numerous minor splits and disintegration.
Second constituent assembly
The party managed to win only a seat under proportional representation. Even party chairman Raj Kishor Yadav lost his seat to Nepali Congress candidate.[10]
