Lucknow Super Giants in 2022
Lucknow Super Giants is a franchise cricket team based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. They play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). [1][2] The team is owned by RPSG Group who previously owned the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise in 2016 and 2017. The team is captained by KL Rahul and coached by Andy Flower.[3]

Lucknow Franchise is newly formed for the 15th edition of IPL 2022, scheduled to begin on March 26th. Sanjiv Goenka owned the RPSG Group bought the Franchise for ₹7,090 crore. The Lucknow team announced their formal name for IPL 2022 as "Lucknow Super Giants" on their official Twitter handle on 24 January 2022.
Background
As an expansion team, the franchise were able to add three players ahead of the 2022 mega-auction.[4][5]
The franchise has chosen to retain three players ahead of the 2022 mega-auction. KL Rahul, India’s stand-in skipper in the recently ODI series against South Africa was the first acquisition for the Lucknow franchise and was drafted for ₹17 crore. Marcus Stoinis was drafted for ₹9.2 crore, while young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi was snapped for ₹4 crore ahead of the 2022 auction. After drafting three players, they were left with ₹59.8 crores ahead of the auction.
LSG signed up an additional 18 players in the auction. They purchased a total of eight players (5- Indian players, 3- Overseas Player) on Day 1 of the auction, which was held in Bengaluru, spending a total of ₹52.1 crore. They added another 13 players to their roster on the 2nd day of the auction. The most expensive player for the franchise was pacer Avesh Khan (base price of ₹20 lakh) who became the most expensive uncapped player when they picked him up for ₹10 crores. Following Avesh Khan, Jason Holder (base price ₹1.5 crores) was the second most expensive player, going for ₹8.75 crores in the auction.
All-rounder Krunal Pandya (base price ₹2 crores) was snapped for ₹8.25 Crores. LSG have bought a total of 21 players consisting of 7 all rounders, 7 bowlers, 1 wicketkeeper and 3 batsmen, in which 14 were Indian players and 7 were overseas.
Former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower was appointed as the head coach of Lucknow Super Giants. Flower is a vastly experienced coach who worked around the world with several teams in national as well as in T20 leagues. Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir serves as a mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants, while former Indian wicketkeeper Vijay Dahiya serves as the assistant coach. Earlier, Dahiya was a part of the Delhi Capitals support staff. International Premier League (IPL) will start from 26th March and Lucknow Super Giants will play their first match in IPL on 28th March at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai with their fellow debutants Gujarat Titans, who also will be playing their first game in the cash-rich league.
