List of current champions in WWE
WWE is an American professional wrestling promotion based out of Stamford, Connecticut and is the world's largest promotion. The company promotes several championships and title reigns are either determined by professional wrestling matches or are awarded to a wrestler, as a result of the culmination of various (scripted) storylines.
WWE divides its roster between four brands, which are where wrestlers exclusively perform on a weekly basis, albeit with some exceptions. The two primary brands that WWE promotes are Raw and SmackDown, collectively referred to as the main roster. NXT serves as the developmental brand for the main roster (though was considered a third main brand from 2019 to 2021),[1][2] while NXT UK is for wrestlers based in the United Kingdom and is a subdivision of NXT.[3]
All four brands have a primary, secondary, and tag team championship for male wrestlers and a singles championship for female wrestlers. There are only two tag team championships for female wrestlers—one for the main roster, shared by Raw and SmackDown, and the other on NXT. There is also an open championship, which is available to anyone, regardless of gender or WWE employment status.
There are currently 19 championships in WWE. As of May 4, 2022, among the four current brands, 24 wrestlers officially hold championships, including one double champion. This list includes the number of times the wrestler has held the title, the date and location of the win, and a description of the winning bout.
Overview
Men
At the top of WWE's championship hierarchy for male wrestlers are the WWE Championship on Raw and the Universal Championship on SmackDown—regarded as world championships. Both titles are held by Roman Reigns, who is recognized as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. In his fourth reign as WWE Champion, he won the title by defeating Brock Lesnar on April 3, 2022, on Night 2 of WrestleMania 38 in a Winner Takes All match to claim both championships.[4] In his second reign as Universal Champion, he won the title by defeating previous champion "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman, who Reigns pinned, in a No Holds Barred triple threat match at Payback on August 30, 2020.[5]
Secondary titles for male wrestlers include the United States Championship on Raw and the Intercontinental Championship on SmackDown. The United States Championship is held by Theory, who is in his first reign. He defeated Finn Bálor on the April 18, 2022, episode of Raw.[6] The Intercontinental Championship is held by first-time champion Ricochet, who defeated Sami Zayn on the March 4, 2022, episode of SmackDown.[7]
Tag team championships for male wrestlers include the Raw Tag Team Championship and the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. The Raw Tag Team Championship is held by RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Riddle), who are in their second reign as a team. They won the titles by defeating previous champions Alpha Academy (Otis and Chad Gable) and the team of Seth "Freakin" Rollins and Kevin Owens in a triple threat tag team match on the March 7, 2022, episode of Raw.[8] The SmackDown Tag Team Championship is held by The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso), who are in their fifth reign. They defeated Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio on July 18, 2021, during the Money in the Bank Kickoff pre-show.[9]
Women
At the top of WWE's championship hierarchy for female wrestlers are the Raw Women's Championship and the SmackDown Women's Championship—regarded as women's world championships. The Raw Women's Championship is held by first-time champion Bianca Belair, who defeated Becky Lynch on April 2, 2022, at WrestleMania 38 Night 1.[10] The SmackDown Women's Championship is held by record six-time champion Charlotte Flair, who became champion as a result of the 2021 WWE Draft. Prior to the draft, Flair held the Raw Women's Championship while Becky Lynch held the SmackDown Women's Championship. During the draft, they were drafted to the opposite brands, and when the draft results went into effect on October 22, 2021, WWE official Sonya Deville had the champions exchange titles on that night's episode of SmackDown to keep the championships on their respective brands.[11]
The WWE Women's Tag Team Championship is the only tag team championship for women on the main roster, and as such, it is shared between Raw and SmackDown. The title is held by SmackDown's Naomi and Sasha Banks, who are in their first reign as a team. Individually, it is the first reign for Naomi and record-tying third for Banks. They defeated former champions Carmella and Queen Zelina, Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley, and Natalya and Shayna Baszler in a fatal four-way tag team match on Night 2 of WrestleMania 38 on April 3, 2022.[12]
Open
The 24/7 Championship is an open championship, available to anyone regardless of brand or gender—including non-WWE personnel. It can be defended anytime, anywhere, as long as a WWE referee is present. The title is held by Dana Brooke from Raw, who is in her third reign. She won the title by pinning previous champion Akira Tozawa during an in-ring wedding ceremony on the April 18, 2022, episode of Raw.[13]
NXT
NXT is WWE's primary developmental brand, featuring three championships for men and two for women.
Men
The top title for male wrestlers is the NXT Championship. It is held by Bron Breakker, who is in his second reign. He won the title by defeating Dolph Ziggler on the April 4, 2022, episode of Raw.[14] The secondary championship for male wrestlers is the NXT North American Championship. It is held by first-time champion Cameron Grimes, who won the title by defeating previous champion Carmelo Hayes, Santos Escobar, Solo Sikoa, and Grayson Waller in a five-way ladder match at Stand & Deliver on April 2, 2022.[15] The men's tag team championship is the NXT Tag Team Championship, which is held by first-time champions Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince and Kit Wilson). They won the vacant championship by defeating Legado Del Fantasma (Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza), The Creed Brothers (Brutus Creed and Julius Creed), Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen, and Grayson Waller and Sanga in a five-team gauntlet match on the April 12, 2022, episode of NXT 2.0; previous champions MSK (Wes Lee and Nash Carter) were stripped of the titles after Carter was released by WWE.[16]
Women
The top title for female wrestlers is the NXT Women's Championship. It is held by Mandy Rose, who is in her first reign. She won the title by defeating Raquel González in a Chucky's choice Trick or Street Fight match on October 26, 2021, during the special "Halloween Havoc" episode of NXT 2.0.[17] The tag team championship for women is the NXT Women's Tag Team Championship, which is held by record-tying two-time champions Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne). They defeated Dakota Kai and Raquel González on the April 9, 2022, episode of NXT 2.0.[18]
NXT UK
NXT UK is a subsidiary brand of NXT exclusively based in the United Kingdom. NXT UK has three championships for men and one for women. The top title for male wrestlers is the NXT United Kingdom Championship. It is held by Ilja Dragunov, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating Walter at NXT TakeOver 36 on August 22, 2021.[19] The secondary championship for male wrestlers is the NXT UK Heritage Cup, which has a special stipulation in which all matches are contested under "British Rounds Rules". It is held by Noam Dar, who is in his first reign. He defeated Tyler Bate on the October 28, 2021, episode of NXT UK (the actual date the match took place is unknown).[20] The men's tag team championship is the NXT UK Tag Team Championship, which is held by Ashton Smith and Oliver Carter, who are in their first reign. They defeated previous champions Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven and Tyler Bate) and Die Familie (Charlie Dempsey and Rohan Raja) in a triple threat tag team match during the NXT UK tapings in London, England on April 21, 2022 (will air at a later date).[21] The NXT UK Women's Championship is the only championship for female wrestlers in NXT UK. It is held by first-time title holder Meiko Satomura, who won the title by defeating Kay Lee Ray on the June 10, 2021, episode of NXT UK (the actual date the match took place is unknown).[22]
