The Liberal Democratic Party emphasizes the strengthening of the individual, where one can enjoy freedom of action through creativity and initiative. They want to directly promote democracy and use referendums on important issues. In their opinion, individual freedom is the key to the nation's fortune, along with low taxes, peaceful and unrestricted international trade, free competition and as little state intervention as possible.[1]

On October 14, 2020, Guðmundur Franklín Jónsson, an economist, announced that he intended to form a new political party that would run in the 2021 parliamentary election.[2] On February 10, 2021, the candidacy was confirmed and announced.[3] The party ran in the parliamentary election on September 25, 2021 and won no seats.
