Life and career

Early career

At the age of six, she recorded her first song. It is the song "Colorful Lies" (Serbian Cyrillic: Šarene laže), which she sang with her father Knez for the compilation CD "Stars Sing for Children". Ksenija showed her talent and love for music very early, so she attended the UMS school for talents and participated in various children's festivals.

She regularly performed at children's festivals, including "Magic" (Serbian Latin: Čarolija), where she sang the song of the same name in 2006.[3] She also participated in the festivals "Nish Meetings" (Serbian Latin: Niški susreti), "Pop Rock Kids" and others.[4]

The public first met her in 2013 as one of the members of the group Sky's. Sky's performed at the Beosong with the song "Magic" (Serbian Cyrillic: Магија). Sky Wikluh wrote, composed and arranged the song. Ksenija and her friends Dana Gasić Gavaja and Anđela Vujović, better known to the public today as Angelina became the youngest participants in that competition. The victory, however, went to the group Moje 3.[5]

SevdahBABY

During 2017 a collaboration with musician Milan Stanković, better known as SevdahBaby happened. They recorded two songs "Just be far enough" (Serbian Latin: Ti samo budi dovoljno daleko) and "Grab me gently" (Serbian Latin: Zgrabi me nežno) for which they also released two music videos.[6][7] The young singer attracted the attention of the public, not only with her vocal abilities, but also with her beauty. After that she started singing backing vocals at concerts and performances of famous musicians, such as Dado Topic, Zeljko Joksimovic and others.[8]

Eurovision Song Contest

Her father, Nenad Knezevic Knez, was chosen to represent Montenegro at Eurovision in 2015. He sang the song "Adio", and the accompanying vocals were sung by, among others, Ksenija. At the Eurovision Song Contest held in Vienna that year, they won 13th place, and went down in history as the most successful Montenegrin performers at that international competition.[2]

Hurricane

In 2017 Ksenija joined a Serbian pop folk girl group called Hurricane. They gained popularity with the song "Favorito", which quickly took over the regional charts and the YouTube trending pages. They participated in the 2020 edition of the Beovizija where they were selected to represent Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, with the song "Hasta La Vista". However, the 2020 contest was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. In November 2020, it was confirmed that Hurricane would represent Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, with the song "Loco Loco".[9][10] At the contest, Hurricane performed in the second semi-final and made it to the Grand final scoring 124 points. In the final, they performed in 8th position and placed fifteenth out of the 26 participating countries (9th in televote and 21st in jury vote), scoring 102 points.[11]

Personal life

Knežević was born in Belgrade,[1] where she currently lives. Ksenija is a graduate student at Singidunum University, Department of Digital Marketing. She has a four years younger sister, Andrea.[12][13] Knežević has been in a relationship with architect Nikola Todorović since 2015. On one occasion, she admitted that they were best friends before they started a relationship.[1]
