Karl Jacobs

Karl Jacobs, formerly known as GamerBoyKarl, is an American YouTuber and Twitch streamer known for his Minecraft content. Previously a Roblox streamer, he is the creator of the anthology series Tales From the SMP set in the Dream SMP Minecraft server and co-host of the podcast Banter with YouTuber Sapnap.

Internet career

Jacobs began streaming on Twitch in 2017,[2] when he played Roblox under the name GamerBoyKarl.[3] In 2019, he was hired as a video editor for YouTuber MrBro's channel. He then became a cameraman for MrBro's brother MrBeast before transitioning into a member of MrBeast's onscreen cast.[2][4] During a video for MrBeast Gaming, Jacobs met the YouTuber Dream, and was later invited to join his Minecraft server Dream SMP.[4][5]

Throughout 2020–2021, Jacobs competed in the monthly Minecraft MC Championship (MCC) created by Noxcrew, including MCC 11,[6] 12,[7] 13[8] and 17,[9] and was part of the winning team in MCC 11.[10] In September 2021, he started a podcast with fellow Minecraft YouTuber Sapnap called Banter, which briefly overtook The Joe Rogan Experience as the number one podcast on the Spotify charts following the release of the first episode featuring MrBeast.[11] Jacobs also developed the online anthology series Tales From the SMP which explores the story of Dream SMP by following Jacobs' time-travelling character to various times and locations throughout the server.[3][12] The pilot episode of the second season of the show titled "Tales From the SMP: The Maze" premiered on February 11, 2022.[13] In March 2022, Jacobs was announced as the creative ambassador for shoe retailer Journeys.[14]
