Getting connected initially by their families, and later through a helpless situation, Anubhav and Gungun don’t seem to part their ways too quick. With the pressure of Anubhav already being married to Akriti, will he be able to fetch Gungun the right she deserves?

Anubhav "Anu" Kulshreshth is a young 28 year old scientist, who lives with his big happy joint family, is very family oriented and believes in family values. On the other hand, Riddhima "Gungun" Bhatnagar is a rich spoilt 21 year old young girl, who lives with her father and aunt. Gungun's mother Maya left the house and abandoned her family 12 years ago, when Gungun was just 8 years old, for her career and luxurious life and moved to USA, thus, Gungun hates her for it. Her arrogance is the only way of hiding her pain from everyone, and she often parties with her so-called friends to fight her loneliness.

Anu's family thinks Gungun is a perfect match for Anu, but he disagrees as he only sees Gungun's rudeness. Gungun goes out partying with her friends. She also invites Chhavi but Anu disagrees as he doesn't like late night parties. Gungun also feels a connection with Kulshreshths, but hates Anu. The latter insults Gungun and her friends in the party but apologises to Gungun later at Dr. Riddhesh's behest. On her 21st birthday party, Gungun keeps avoiding Anu for insulting her. Later that night Gungun gets a call from her mother wishing her a happy birthday. But Gungun pours out her hate towards her mother as she never visited Gungun in the past 12 years. Anu overhears her conversation and realises that the reason behind Gungun's rudeness is actually not getting the love she wanted from her mother.

During the party, Dr. Riddhesh asks the Kulshreshts if Anu could get married to Gungun, and they agree. The next day, they speak to Anu about it, who completely disagrees to the marriage, citing Gungun's arrogance and inability to adjust in their household as reasons, upsetting his family. Finally, after his family's emotional request, he agrees. Even Gungun agrees as she fails in her B.A. final year exams. Before the wedding, they both make a deal with each other. They sign a deal to break their wedding when Gungun passes her exams next year and when Anubhav feels it's not good for them to be together.

Few days later, Anubhav is awarded the 'Scientist of the year' award and he sings in the ceremony to which Gungun is slightly impressed. On the day of ceremony, Garima sees her daughter Akriti being Anubhav's junior and tries to talk to her but she confronts Garima making her feel shattered as she thinks her mother left her for luxurious life, but Garima misses her daughter everyday and loves her a lot and everyone tries to make Akriti realise it, but she doesn't listen to them. Akriti also hates Gungun and Dr. Riddhesh for this. Gungun takes Anubhav's help to patch up them both but fails. Akriti has feelings for Anubhav, but later is shocked to learn about Anubhav and Gungun's wedding. Meanwhile, the Kulshreshths and Bhatnagars start preparations for the wedding, while the wedding sees a new problem. Golu (Anubhav's uncle) is accused of bank robbery done by his colleague Keshav. Kulshreshths hide this from Bhatnagars and decide to cancel the marriage. Soon Gungun and Dr. Riddhesh get to know the problem and Gungun pays the money from her account to save Golu and also police find the real culprit. Anubhav and his family thank Gungun. Meanwhile, Akriti confesses her love to Anu, to which he rejects her.

Maya (Gungun's mother) returns to India from U.S.A. and arrives for Gungun's marriage. She along with her husband Dr. Riddhesh meets Kulshresths and has a bad opinion on them. Meanwhile, Akriti sees Maya and introduces herself to Maya and thinks that she could use Maya for her benefits. She instigates Maya against the Kulshreshths so that she calls off Anubhav and Gungun's wedding. They both join hands to ruin the marriage and decide to arrange a pre-wedding party to insult the Kulshreshths. Meanwhile, Gungun and Maya start to patch up slowly. In the party, Maya heavily insults Kulshreshths to which they decide to call off the wedding. After Maya insults Kulshreshths in the party, Gungun realises that Maya didn't change and she begins to hate her even more, and wants her to be out of the house.

Gungun is so sad for what happened in the party and immediately wants to apologize to the Kulshreshths that night itself but her father stops her as they might get more stressed. On the other hand, Akriti tries her best to win the hearts of Anubhav's family and starts to comment negatively on Gungun. That night Akriti goes to the Kulshreshths and looks after them. Looking at her concern for their family and specially Anubhav, Kulshreshths start liking Akriti.

Now as the marriage of Anubhav and Gungun is cancelled, Charudutt wants Anubhav to get married off at the previously decided date, time and venue, but with a different bride in place of Gungun, so as to take revenge from Bhatnagars. He feels that Akriti is the perfect match for Anu and tells the whole Kulshreshth family the same. They all agree for the marriage, while Anu initially rejects but eventually agrees to that under his family's pressure.

Akriti, her father and the Kulshreshths, all agree for Akriti and Anubhav's marriage. Akriti and Shankar (her father) decide to call Garima also for her wedding. They inform Garima that Akriti's wedding got fixed but do not disclose that the groom is none other than Anubhav himself. Garima agrees to attend the wedding and all the pre-wedding rituals of her daughter. Akriti doesn't invite the Bhatnagars for her wedding. The Kulshreshths also decide to not inform or invite the Bhatnagars for the wedding.

Gungun and Riddhesh decide to go to the Kulshreshths and apologize to them for what happened at the party. Meanwhile, Garima gets to know that the groom is Anubhav and is shocked. She confronts Akriti and Shankar for doing this. Gungun and Riddhesh reach the Kulshreshths house only to see that Anubhav's sangeet ceremony is going on. They are in for yet another major shock, that the bride is none other than Akriti herself. Gungun and Riddhesh feel so dejected and sad seeing this. They misunderstand and confront Garima for not telling them the truth. Garima pleads to them and tells them that even she was kept uninformed of the groom till the sangeet, but Gungun and Riddhesh do not believe her. They apologize to the Kulshreshths and leave. Gungun feels shattered and cheated. She couldn't digest everything that was happening around her. After coming home, Maya triggers Gungun and Riddhesh and Gungun couldn't take that pain anymore. An angry Gungun leaves the house in her car without informing her parents and drives so speedily which results in her accident. Riddhesh calls Golu to ask if Gungun is at the sangeet. Golu comes to the Bhatnagars after knowing that Gungun is missing. The police inform Riddhesh about her accident. He and Golu immediately take her to his hospital. She is treated immediately and is out of danger. Golu informs Yug of Gungun's accident. Yug, Ankit and even Anubhav come to the hospital to see Gungun. Riddhesh confronts Anubhav and warns him to stay away from his daughter. Gungun gets discharged from the hospital and Gungun and Riddhesh have a heartfelt conversation of how only they both are enough for each other in this world. Meanwhile, Anubhav's Haldi ceremony is going on at the Kulshreshths. Gungun takes rest and sees a bad dream that Anubhav and Akriti are getting married and Riddhesh goes missing. She wakes up and confronts and blames Maya for what all is happening. Later, Gungun wants to gift a ring to Anubhav on his wedding, for which she and Riddhesh go for shopping. Ronnie (Gungun's namesake boyfriend) calls Gungun and asks her to come on their Mussoorie trip which he planned with all their friends, to which Gungun disagrees because she has to attend Anubhav and her cousin Akriti's wedding. Maya leaves for U.S.A. Meanwhile, a sad Garima goes to temple and does pooja for Gungun's wellbeing. Gungun and Riddhesh get ready to attend Anubhav and Akriti's wedding but Ronnie again calls Gungun and forces her to come to the trip. She agrees to it and takes the ring with her and tells Riddhesh that she'll gift Anubhav while returning from the trip the next day. Riddhesh agrees to it.

Later, on Anubhav's wedding day, he gets a call from Ronnie saying that on the same day, he and gungun are going to get married. Anubhav gets furious on learning this and calls Riddhesh to confront him for this. Much to Anu's surprise, Riddhesh himself is first shocked to know about Ronnie and Gungun's wedding and then he confronts Anubhav and asks him to not interfere in Gungun's life and look after his marriage. Then they figure out that Ronnie forcefully wants to marry Gungun without her interest. They both reach the venue on time and Anubhav fights Ronnie and his friends. Ronnie forcefully tries to fill Gungun's trichion with vermilion, seeing which Anubhav pushes aside Ronnie and himself fills her trichion with vermilion, thus unofficially marrying her in order to save her from Ronnie. Gungun is now anubhav's half wife. The police nab Ronnie and his friends. Riddhesh confronts Anubhav for marrying Gungun without her consent. Anubhav apologizes to Riddhesh for this and says that he only did this to save Gungun from Ronnie and that he doesn't not consider this marriage. Gungun is shattered and couldn't process everything that happened in front of her and to her. She gifts the ring to Anubhav. Riddhesh and Gungun reach home and Gungun refuses to remove the sindoor because she feels that it is wrong and disrespectful to remove sindoor as it was applied by Anubhav in the temple, in front of the Goddess. Anubhav reaches his wedding venue and hides the whole temple fiasco from his family.

Anubhav marries Akriti in presence of his family and relatives, with all the rituals. After their wedding is completed, Akriti calls Gungun and triggers her and asks her to come to their wedding to congratulate the newly married couple, saying that both her and Anubhav are waiting for Gungun. Akriti wants to invite Gungun to her wedding only to humiliate and make Gungun jealous. Gungun decides to go to the wedding as a married woman with the vermillion to make Anubhav realise his mistake. Meanwhile, Riddhesh suffers from severe chest pain and couldn't move from his place in his room, whereas Gungun doesn't know about Riddhesh's condition. While leaving for the wedding, Gungun informs Riddhesh from outside his room to which he doesn't respond loud, to which Gungun thinks that he's sleeping and that she shouldn't disturb him. She then leaves for the wedding venue. She reaches the wedding and everyone is shocked to see vermilion in her trichion and questions her regarding the same. She tells everyone that she's married but doesn't disclose the name of her husband. She indirectly confronts Anubhav for his irresponsible and cowardly actions. Everyone tries to confront and humiliate Gungun for her actions, without knowing the truth. When Gungun returns back home she learns that Dr.Riddhesh had heart attack and the latter dies in hospital leaving Gungun alone, heartbroken and shattered.

The song ‘Aate Jaate Khoobsurat’ was reverbed in a newer version as the title track for the show. It is sung by Shaan and Neeti Mohan.[18]
