History
The 1550 frequency originally debuted as KRES in 1951. KRES was initially launched on 1230 kHz in 1946. KKJO call sign was assigned in 1961. The early history is detailed on the KKJO page. KKJO acquired an FM counterpart in 1980, from competitor KUSN. The two stations swapped callsigns in 1988 with KSFT becoming the AM station. It had gone oldies, but later moved to sports talk with coverage of St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Northwest Missouri State University sports.
The station changed call letters to KESJ in late August 2009.
On August 22, 2019, KESJ changed their format from ESPN sports to 1980s-1990s classic hits, branded as "Joe Town 107.5".[2]
