Jonathan I ben Abiathar

Jonathan I ben Abiathar was the 9th Samaritan High Priest according to Samaritan Genealogical Records.[1] He was son of high Priest Abiathar. He (2 Samuel 15:27), served as a messenger during Absalom's rebellion (2 Samuel 15:36, 17:17).[2] He lived as a contemporary of Zadok, who Josephus claims was the ancestor of the Samaritan High Priests[3]

The king also said to Zadok the priest, “Do you understand? Go back to the city with my blessing. Take your son Ahimaaz with you, and also Abiathar’s son Jonathan. You and Abiathar return with your two sons.

2 Samuel 15:27

Their two sons, Ahimaaz son of Zadok and Jonathan son of Abiathar, are there with them. Send them to me with anything you hear.”

2 Samuel 15:36

Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying at En Rogel. A female servant was to go and inform them, and they were to go and tell King David, for they could not risk being seen entering the city.

2 Samuel 17:17
