Please visit https://www.jogiara.org for further details.The village is named after Jogi Singh, who migrated from Jodhpur, Rajasthan in the mid-17th century, with his two siblings Bir Singh and other one,[1] and settled in present-day Raghopur, Vaishali (where his village is named after him as Birpur). The other one settled in Rawaich village, near Bakhtiyarpur, Patna. They belong to the royal clan of Rathores of Jodhpur.There was one more brother of jogi singh(sarvsen) named Bhimsen, who established their residence on the bank of Lakshmana river and named BBhimwara which was later renamed as Bahilwara. Rathore of Bahilwara spread into Dhanukhi, Garha and Premnagar village in Runisaidpur block.

The major religion is Hindu. The communities are Rajput; Maithil Brahmins; Maithil Karna Kayastha; Haluwai, Thakur (Hazaam), Teli, Sudi, Mandal, Sewak, Tatma, Dom, etc. Jogiara is a place of historical importance. The village was never entitled to pay the land revenue due to continuous struggle and fight against the Mughal emperor. The villagers struggled and showed great bravery against the Mughal dynasty. Mithila Maharaja Sir Kameshwar Singh, also known as Darbhanga Maharaja, never levied any land tax on this village. Jogiara village also participated hugely against the British rule.[2]

Jogiara is a base of royal families and culture. The oldest Zamindari status holding house is Haweli Deudhi of Jogiara. This Palace called as Deudhi was made by Babu Gopal Singh, a Zamindar. The next haweli called the Darbaar of Babu Narayan Prasad Singh.

Demographics

As per 2011 census, the total population of Jogiara is approximately 6717 with 1404 houses.[3]

The female population is around 48.5%. The female-to-male ratio of Jogiara is 93.01% as compared to the Bihar's female to male ratio of 91.93%.

The total literacy rate is 66.63% which is much higher than as compared to Bihar literacy rate. In Jogiara male literacy stands at 77.20 % while the female literacy rate is 55.58 %.

The major religion followed is Hindus. Out of which, the schedule caste constitutes around 11.7% of the total population. The working population is around 27%.

Maithili language is the major language spoken among the residents. Hindi is the official language. English is understood, but is not spoken. The economy is agriculture-based.

Communication

Jogiara village has a railway station named Jogiara and is a part of East Central Railway, Samastipur railway division.[4] It is connected from two major stations Darbhanga and Sitamarhi. The adjacent stations are Dewra – Bandhauli (towards Darbhanga) and chanduana halt (towards Sitamarhi). A much-awaited stretch of 68 km of broad gauge from Darbhanga- Sitamarhi was completed in year 2008.[5] Earlier there was meter gauge line in this route. Currently 12 trains halts at Jogiara railway station.[4] Jogiara is directly connected to Kolkata by Mithlanchal express[6] and is connected with several major cities of India via Darbhanga.

Jogiara is also well connected by road. It can be reached by following, Jale-Atarwel Road, Pupri-Madhubani State Highway(SH52) and is also connected to Darbhanga via Garri, Kamtaul-Darbhanga Highway(SH57). It is 38km from Darbhanga and takes around 1 hour to reach via Kamtaul Highway.[7]

Jogiara village does not have an air transport service. The current nearest air transport facility is available at Patna Airport which is around 158 km by road from jogiara. A new airport is going to be operational in Darbhanga which is around 41km from village.[8]

The village is also served by India Post. Its Postal Code is 847303.[9]

The degree holders in several fields of education are present in this village, like the D.Litt. (Doctor of Letters); Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy), LL.D., M.D. (Medicine & Surgery), Engineer, Chartered Accountants, MBA, etc.

The literacy rate of the village is 57.25% compared to the literacy rate of state 47%. The literacy rate of the village is better than the state literacy rate. The literacy is low and needs immediate attention of the Central and State Government.

The female literacy rate is 55.58% compared to the male literacy rate of 77.20%.
