Jana Gana Mana (2022 film)

Jana Gana Mana (transl.The Minds of All People) is a 2022 Indian Malayalam-language legal drama film written by Sharis Mohammed and directed by Dijo Jose Antony, and is the first of two cinematic parts.[2] Produced by Supriya Menon and Listin Stephen, the film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Mamta Mohandas. The film's music is composed by Jakes Bejoy while cinematography and editing are handled by Sudeep Elamon and Sreejith Sarang respectively.

Premise

Sajjan Kumar, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Karnataka, have been deputed to solve the rape and murder case of Prof. Saba Mariyam, a strong and socially-responsible college professor, from the Central University in Ramanagara.

Jana Gana Mana is scheduled to release on 28 April 2022. The film was previously scheduled to release in late 2021, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India. The flim was released in Malayalam along with the dubbed version in Tamil,Telugu. [4]

The digital streaming rights of the film were bought by Netflix.

Reception

Critical response

Jana Gana Mana received widespread critical acclaim from critics and audience alike. Deepa Soman of The Times of India gave the film 3.5 out of 5 writing "Those who love a good political crime thriller inspired from real-life incidents can feast on Jana Gana Mana, that teaches you to think, question, challenge and more as a common man who consumes news at its face value." [5] The Indian Express wrote "Prithviraj steals the show in this preachy and patronising political thriller".[6] The New Indian express wrote "Prithviraj-starrer is an epic, high-impact political thriller".[7] Ancy K Sunny of The Week rated 3.5 out of 5 and wrote "Suraj Venjaramoodu steals the show in a thought-provoking political thriller".[8]

Sequel

On 29 March 2022, during the press event of the film, Prithviraj revealed that the pre-production works of the sequel of the film had already begun. He also revealed that the visuals featured in the teaser and trailer of the movie were from the second part of the film. The first part would primarily feature flashback sequences while the second part would feature the story taking place during the current time.[2]
