Jacob Portrait

Jacob Portrait a.k.a. Jake Portrait is an American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and record producer. He is founder and current member of New Zealand psychedelic rock band, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Portland-based alternative rock band, Blouse.

Career

Portrait is from Portland, Oregon.

He started a psychedelic rock band Unknown Mortal Orchestra in 2010 along with Ruban Nielson. He is a playing bass for the band as a lead member.[1] He has worked with the band on their albums Multi-Love (2015), Sex & Food (2018), and IC-01 Hanoi (2018).

He also teamed up with singer-guitarist Charlie Hilton and bassist Patrick Adams and they founded a 3 members alternative rock band, Blouse, in Portland.[2][3] The band's debut was self-titled Blouse which was released in 2011 and second record Imperium was released in 2013 which was made entirely with instruments.[4]

Portrait has produced music for several artists. In 2016 he produced the first solo album Palana by Blouse's singer Hilton.[5]

He has worked with Alex G mixing his albums Beach Music (2015), Rocket (2017), and House of Sugar (2019).[6][7][8][9][10]

He worked as an engineer on the Whitney's Forever Turned Around in 2019.[11]

In 2020, He wrote the lyrics of "I'd Die for You" in Infinite Things along with Paloma Faith and Patrick Wimberly.[12] Porches' album Ricky Music was co-produced by Portrait.[13] He co-produced and recorded Someone New by Helena Deland.[14][1] He also collaborated in Okay Kaya's album Watch This Liquid Pour Itself.[15]

In 2021, He worked on Cloves' Nightmare on Elmfield Road.[16] Several tracks on Claud's debut album Super Monster were composed and produced by Jake.[17][18]
