Jörger von Tollet

The Jörger von Tollet (also: Jörger, Jörger zu Tollet) were a noble family from Upper Austria that first appeared in the 13th century. In 1577 they became barons, in 1657 counts and in 1659 imperial counts. During the period of Protestantism in Austria they emerged as strong promoters of the new religion, which worsened their situation during the Counter-Reformation and they lost most of their possessions. The family died out in the male line in 1772.

Coat of arms

The old coat of arms of the Jörger family is a silver-black cleft shield with two upright plow knives (Sech) in alternating colors with cutting edges pointing outwards. When the family was raised to the rank of count, the coat of arms was considerably expanded. The coat of arms fields 1 and 4 are decorated with the coat of arms of the Grabner zu Rosenburg family, from whom the Jörger family inherited the coat of arms. The family coat of arms of the Jörger family was adopted, partly in a modified form, into the municipal coat of arms of Sankt Georgen bei Grieskirchen, Tollet, Scharnstein and Micheldorf in Oberösterreich.
