Background
Islam is the religion of the world which has spread very fast. After Christianity, the followers of Islam are the most in the world.[4] Where people like Islam, there are also many people who hate Islam. It is Islamophobia to hate Islam without understanding it and without investigating it, and to misunderstand Islam in the words of the people.[5]
Throughout history, many people have acted against Muslims who were victims of Islamophobia. Many attacks on Muslims were reported, mosques were demolished and the hijab was banned in many countries. Islamophobia escalated after the attack on the World Trade Center, which caused great distress to Muslims in Europe and the United States.[6]
Official Recognization
On 15 March 2022, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution by consensus which was introduced by Pakistan on behalf of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation that proclaimed March 15 as 'International Day to Combat Islamophobia'.[8][9]
