Institute of Cardiovascular & Medical Sciences

The Institute of Cardiovascular & Medical Sciences (ICAMS) main hub is the purpose-built BHF Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre facility at the University of Glasgow.[1] The Director of Institute is Prof Rhian Touyz, MBBCh, MSc(Med), PhD. She is the British Heart Foundation(BHF) Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine and Director of the BHF Centre of Research Excellence. The Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences (ICAMS) is a research-intensive institute of basic and clinical scientists and clinicians.

Description

There are around 175 research and support staff, as well as PhD & MD students (116 in 2017-18). Research is the primary purpose and activity of the Institute. Staff are currently focused on three main themes (Cardiac, Vascular and Metabolic), as well as some emerging themes (Renal, Stroke, Omics.) Institute staff also run and contribute to Post-Graduate Programmes: MSc Cardiovascular Sciences, MSc Clinical Pharmacology, MSc Clinical Trials and Stratified Medicine, MSc Sports & Exercise Science & Medicine, MSc Stratified Medicine and Pharmacological Innovation.

College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences

ICAMS is part of the College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences (College of MVLS), which was formed in 2010.
