Ian Johnstone (broadcaster)
Ian Anthony Johnstone, QSO,[1] (born 1935)[2][3][4] is an English-born, New Zealand broadcaster, presenter and journalist.[5][6] Johnstone was born in Longtown and came to New Zealand in 1961 after working in Britain and Zambia.[7][8]

Biography
In Johnstone's early career, he was a teacher at the District High School in Temuka, New Zealand. In Timaru, Johnstone got a part-time job as an announcer at Radio 3XC.[3]
Johnstone was a presenter for the 1960s series of Close Up that was broadcast in New Zealand.[9] He then became a reporter and producer for the New Zealand programme, Compass that aired from 1964 up until 1969.[10] He was also notable for being a presenter for the New Zealand Telethon from 1975 until 1993.[4] Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Johnstone continued to work on various New Zealand produced Television shows as a presenter or narrator. He was awarded the Queen's Service Order in 1990 for public services.[1] His book Stand and Deliver was published in 1998.[11][12] His most recent work was for the 2019 New Zealand documentary, Hillary: Ocean to Sky as the narrator.[13]
Personal life
Johnstone is married with three children.[5]
