Erastus Awortu

Hon. Barr. Erstus Awortu also known as Erastus Awortu is a Nigerian lawyer and politician. He is the current Mayor (Chairman) of the Andoni Local government area of Rivers State. He is an acclaimed peace champion of[1] the Obolo people for restoring peace in the war ravaged Andoni Local Government Area orchestrated by cultism.[2] Before being elected in 2021, he served on the board of the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority as secretary. Also, he was appointed as the Special adviser on the Niger Delta Development Commission on matters important to the Government of Rivers State under Chief Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the Executive Governor of Rivers State.[3] In his quest to reposition Andoni economically through the development of Ecotourism, he launched the maiden Andoni Unity Carnival 2021.[4]

Other notable projects upon which Erastus' administration embarked in the Andoni Local Government Area is the signing into law of an anti-poaching bill which he sponsored before the legislative arm of government. The legislation banned the illegal hunting of the African forest elephant and other wildlife species in the Andoni Elephant Sanctuary.
