Edward B. McClain Jr.

Edward B. McClain Jr. was a Liberian politician. He served as Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and Chief of Staff to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.[1][2]

He was born November 18, 1944.[1] His father's family hailed from Mhanwruune Quarter of Picnicess, in Grand Kru County.[1] He was a nephew of President William Richard Tolbert Jr. on his mother's side.[1] McClain Jr. graduated from the College of West Africa and Cuttington College and Divinity School with a BSc degree in Chemistry and Biology.[1] He then studied Psychiatry at the University of Besançon in France.[1] He would go on to reside in Abidjan, where he befriended Johnson Sirleaf.[1] Johnson Sirleaf and McClain Jr. returned to Liberia in 2003.[2] He was a key member of her electoral campaign.[1]

McClain Jr. died on July 23, 2016 whilst undergoing medical treatment in Pretoria, South Africa.[1][2]
