Eared hutia

The eared hutia or large-eared hutia (Mesocapromys auritus) is a species of rodent in the subfamily Capromyinae.

Distribution and habitat

It is endemic to the island of Cayo Fragoso off the northern coast of Cuba. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical mangrove forests and swamps.

Conservation

It is threatened by habitat loss.
