Delicacies Destiny (Chinese: 珍馐记) is a Chinese streaming television series produced by Huanyu Film and Television. The series premiered in Mainland China on Bilibili on April 7, 2022.[1] Internationally, the series is and will be available on Disney+ in selected countries.[2]

Plot
This lush series centers on palace intrigue and the demands of royal palates. A Crown Prince has rejected all candidates for the job of Imperial Chef, but young chef Ling’s succulent commoners' dish wins him over. While Ling’s savory meat dishes please most royal diners, the Emperor and the Empress are vegetarians. Ling tries to handle these restrictions but is betrayed by a seething Noble Consort. Ling is also eyed with anger by the Empress, who can see that the Emperor is enchanted with her. Refusing the Crown Prince’s plea that she learn royal protocol, Ling is faced with a choice: her career or forbidden love.

| Ling Xiaoxiao, who has made herself a name as a chef, leaves her restaurant in pursuit of her dream of becoming Top Imperial Chef. Meanwhile, the Imperial Palace desperately searches for a chef who can satisfy the Crown Prince's palate. Countless chefs from inside and outside the palace fail to deliver, but Ling Xiaoxiao’s simple dish draws the attention of the Imperial Household Department’s attention. As a result, she is given a post at the Delicacy Section of the Crown Prince’s Kitchen. | As Ling Xiaoxiao was wandering the streets, Crown Prince’s Chief Eunuch, Zheng Li, appeared before her and told her that the Crown Prince wanted her back. As it turned out, after he had tasted the wrapped rice, he immediately fell in love with it. She also took this opportunity to learn about what had happened to the previous Head Chef, named Chen, and discovered that the Crown Prince was not as unreasonable as others said he was. Noble Consort Li was very excited about the return of her sons, Princes Jin and An, as they had left for their fiefs at a young age, and she prepared gifts and delicacies for them to enjoy. Similarly, the Crown Prince was very glad to see them return, but they, on the other hand, did not greet him warmly. At the family reunion banquet, Prince Jin tricked the Crown Prince into preparing a dish catering to his and his brother’s strong and light tastes. He took up the task in front of the Emperor, and then gave the task to Ling Xiaoxiao. She didn’t understand why he would accept it, until he told her about how close he and his brothers had been as children. He’d give what his brothers asked for, no matter how hard it would be. After Ling Xiaoxiao and the Crown Prince reached an agreement, she went to collect information about his brothers’ preferences, but the princes caught hers. Based on what she had discovered, she tried time and time again, yet couldn’t balance the two tastes in one dish. She was completely at a loss. However, she overheard a conversation among several maids about scenting gowns with scented sachets, and this gave her a new idea. She decided to make crucian carp soup, which gave Princes Jin and An different flavors, as Prince An’s tureen had been soaked in the chili broth, hence the strong taste. | ||||

| Ling Xiaoxiao’s dish was a success, yet it couldn’t quite break down the barrier among the brothers, until she convinced the Crown Prince to tell the truth. In the past, he had Princes Jin and An leave not to trouble them, but to protect them. The three finally made peace, and to celebrate, Ling Xiaoxiao cooked a meal for them. She got drunk after Crown Prince made her drink one cup of liquor, and shouted that she’d become the Top Imperial Chef, and that the Crown Prince knew nothing about food. Seeing her losing control of herself, Shen Yitao immediately took her away. The following day, everyone in the palace had heard about what Ling Xiaoxiao had done after getting drunk, making it impossible for her to forget it. She asked the Crown Prince to wash the dishes at the Delicacy Section to fulfill his promise, but his incompetence at the task only made her roll her eyes. To welcome Cavalry General Gao Zicheng back from the battlefield, the Emperor asked the Crown Prince to prepare the General’s favorite dish: seasoned crab roe. The Crown Prince had fresh crabs of top quality shipped from the south. By the time Ling Xiaoxiao had received them, they could no longer be kept in the water, so she cooked them right away, and stored the crab roe in a jar. However, the next day, the jar had disappeared. The other dishes had already been served. It was too late to buy new crabs. Everyone in the kitchen was terrified of taking the blame and being punished. | ||||

| Ling Xiaoxiao’s “crab roe” still arrived on the table, but one of the officials who had previously worked in the south discovered that the dish wasn’t actually made of crab, much to the embarrassment of the Emperor. When he was about to blame the Crown Prince, Mingmei claimed that the Crown Prince didn’t know anything about it, and that it was all Ling Xiaoxiao’s idea. Ling Xiaoxiao calmly explained that crab roe would worsen the Emperor’s condition, so she took the liberty of replacing them with egg yolks. The Emperor did not punish her for this. After the banquet, Ling Xiaoxiao misled the kitchen staff into believing that the Crown Prince must hand over the real crab roe, or he’d be in trouble. Mingmei became worried and put the jar back, but was caught red-handed. She admitted to the theft, and the others begged the Crown Prince for leniency, including Ling Xiaoxiao. He decided to give Mingmei a second chance. Mingmei also realized that the Crown Prince would never love her back, and she became less biased against Ling Xiaoxiao. | ||||

| Noble Consort Li’s willfulness continually annoyed the Empress, who always obediently followed the rules. The Emperor attempted to mediate, but only became enraged. He was asked to go on a vegetarian diet to recover his health. As a result, the Empress imposed a no-meat rule in the palace, and would leave to pray for him. Before leaving, she asked Noble Consort Li to look after the Emperor. The Crown Prince asked Ling Xiaoxiao to make vegetarian dishes for his father, after he had had enough of those made by other chefs. Unexpectedly, the Emperor asked Ling Xiaoxiao to cook in his kitchen for a few more days. The Crown Prince had no choice but to let her go. \nNoble Consort Li was craving meat, and had Guiqi sneak some braised pork joints into the palace. While Li was secretly enjoying the meat at the rockery, Ling Xiaoxiao happened to pass by. She was startled and fled the scene. The Emperor’s condition worsened due to consumption of meat. He admitted that he had found some pork joints at the rockery, and couldn’t help taking a few bites. The Crown Prince was determined to find who had broken the no-meat rule. Noble Consort Li feared that Ling Xiaoxiao would turn her in, thus she gave her a hard time, with the intention of getting her to leave. However, Ling Xiaoxiao was a capable chef, and had the Crown Prince on her side. Noble Consort Li had no choice but to poison the food that Ling Xiaoxiao had made for the Emperor, to set her up. | ||||

| Ling Xiaoxiao had finally had enough and ask to compete against Lu Yunzhou in which the loser quits being a chef for life. The Crown Prince tries to stop her from embarrassing herself. The two chefs are asked to cook three dishes during the competition, with the Emperor choosing the winning dishes. Lu Yunzhou’s three dishes both looked and tasted great, while Ling Xiaoxiao’s fell slightly short. She couldn’t come up with another dish to match his, and called a time-out. The Crown Prince grows anxious, as Ling also isn't a favorite to win. After careful consideration, Ling Xiaoxiao decided to make sautéed greens with sesame oil, as Lu’s dishes were mostly meat. She asked the Emperor to taste Lu’s dishes first. Then, when he moved on to her greens, the fresh taste contrasted sharply with the oily texture. The Emperor found her not only skilled but also considerate, which Lu Yunzhou failed to achieve, and ultimately she became the winner. Before Lu Yunzhou left, Ling Xiaoxiao shares a little wisdom. | ||||
