David Popovici

David Popovici (Romanian pronunciation: ['david 'popovit͡ʃʲ]; born 15 September 2004)[1] is a Romanian competitive swimmer who specialises in the freestyle. At age 16, he broke the world junior record in the 100 m freestyle and the European junior record in the 200 m freestyle. He qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and is the youngest member of the Romanian team.

Career

Popovici broke the 100 m freestyle junior world record twice at the 2021 European Junior Swimming Championships in Rome, Italy. The performance made Popovici the fastest man in the world for 2021, surpassing Kliment Kolesnikov.[2]

He qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and is the youngest member of the Romanian team.[3]
