Chinna Durai (1952 film)
Chinna Durai is a 1952 Indian Tamil-language romantic thriller film, directed and produced by T. R. Mahalingam, and written by K. D. Santhanam. The film stars Mahalingam, S. Varalakshmi and G. Sakunthala, with V. K. Ramasamy and Chandrababu in supporting roles. It is based on the novel Irumana Mohinigal, by Vaduvoor Duraisamy Ayyengar.

Plot
Sisters Indramani and Chandramani run an association for the uplift of women. One day their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere and Raja Bahadur, who saves them, falls in love with Chandramani. Raja Bahadur's father tries to fix his marriage with another woman, and in protest he leaves the house. Noticing an advertisement for an English tutor for Chandramani, Raja Bahadur disguises himself as one and takes up the job. Chinna Durai, a wealthy zamindar boy, returns from England after his studies and falls in love with Indramani. When she wants to learn Sanskrit, he goes in disguise and takes up the job. After several events involving kidnap and murder, the lovers and are united.

Production
Chinna Durai is based on the novel Irumana Mohinigal, by Vaduvoor Duraisamy Ayyengar. T. R. Mahalingam, in addition to directing and producing, also played in dual roles.[1][3]

The music was composed by T. G. Lingappa and the lyrics were penned by K. D. Santhanam.

Reception
According to historian Randor Guy, Chinna Durai was commercially unsuccessful due to Mahalingam's poor directorial skills.[2]
