Chennai Central–Coimbatore Shatabdi Express

The Chennai Central–Coimbatore Shatabdi Express was a Shatabdi Express train between Chennai Central and Coimbatore Junction in Tamil Nadu.[1]

History

The Shatabdi Express which was running from 1995[2] and 2000 was stopped because it had occupancy of 60 percent as cited by Railways, It was replaced with an Intercity Express departing at identical timings.[3] Later, Indian railways introduced a Duronto Express between Chennai and Coimbatore in 2011. It was decided to convert back to Shatabdi and add additional stoppages to increase revenues.[4]

Route and stations

The train has 4 commercial stops in between the starting station and the ending station namely, Jolarpettai Junction, Salem Junction, Erode Junction and Tiruppur. It has also been given a temporary halt in Katpadi Junction.

Rake

The rake has 7 AC Chair Cars, 1 AC Executive chair car and 2 EOG cars making a total of 10 coaches. The train got new LHB coaches in November 2014.[5] All the passenger coaches are air-conditioned.

The rake is pulled by Royapuram WAP-7 or Erode WAP-7.
