Brazilian Physical Society

The Brazilian Physical Society (Portuguese: Sociedade Brasileira de Física, SBF)[1] is a civil association formed by physicists in Brazil.[2] Founded on July 14, 1966,[3] the SBF is headquartered in the city of São Paulo. Its first president was Oscar Sala.

Creation

The SBF was created during the 18th Annual Meeting of the Sociedade Brasileira para o Progresso da Ciência (SBPC) — Society for the Advancement of Science — held in Blumenau, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The act of founding happened on July 14, 1966 at the Fritz Müller Municipal Library hall. The participants of this meeting were researchers, teachers and Physics students summoned by individual letters sent to all members of the physical sector of SBPC.
